Replacement Geothermal Unit Hot Water Connection

We have recently had a Waterfurnace Geo replaced with a Tempstar HP unit. The contractor connected the domestic cold water supply line to the HRP inlet, and the HRP outlet to the cold water port of the hot water heater. I'm wondering if this is correct. My electric utility bill spikes when all of the family members are getting morning showers, so something seems off. Thanks!

Not sure what unit you have, but on my ClimateMaster the desuperheater plumbing is in a loop. DSH out - HWH drain - HWH cold - DSH in. I've also got a second unpowered buffer tank, which supposedly is the best arrangement. Look at your manual for guidance.
