Brother don't bother work is so slow here there is none, they announced 1 in 25 homes are in forclosure in monroe county. This is not the move you want to make right now.
Hello to all,
I currently work for a local 638B shop on Long Island NY and service the 5 boros. I am interested in moving to East Stroudsburg P.A I found 1 638 shop in that area but I'm having trouble finding its website. At this point in my career I dont want to leave 638. Does anyone know of any companies in that area or would I be better off working for a company in N.J. Would I be able to leave 638 but stay with the U.A. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Chris

Don't wast your time over in nj either ain't much better over here , if I were you I would stay put for now , remember last one hired first one out.
A mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work if it is not open.
The best part of going to work is coming back home at the end of the day.
Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all.
are you vested yet?ever consider travaling from PA into the metro area for now till you get a sense of whats going on out there.changing you home and job at the same time is real dangerous right now.even if there were good housing and job offers to get into..the pressure on yourself and family! that website check over in www.thebluebook.com punch in air conditioning .......hit contractors ....then pick the states and area closest

Yeah you guys are def. right. I was thinking about living in PA and commuting to the city so I could stay with local 638. I have been with 638 for about 1 year now and dont plan on leaving. Before that I worked for national grid and then moved to Florida so I know what slow is. The shop I work for now is just 4 guys and 2 of them are helpers. Just started to watch the special show on CNBS of the foreclosure crisis called House of Cards. Maybe things will get better as far as affordable housing here on long island. Hey Maxster are you a 638 guy? Thanks for the advice guys.

638B for 20 years with 30 in the field.if you get vested{5 years) it would be something for your later years .right now your working towards journeyman and scale maybe step back and let that be your goal..........if you go out as a journeymen with that more experience the move will go much easier having a stable job situation.i was thinking of working for Local #9 out of NJ but handling the city for them....the BA in LIC said the changeover is possible between unions that are UA affiliated...good luck

638 is a great union. i was in the apprenticeship there working for carrier in Manhattan. the unions out here in pa are not the same even though they are the ua. stick with 638 as long as you can because they are definitely the highest paying place you will find in pa and nj. there is a company in my old home town of jersey city nj which is right across the water from ny. the company is called refrigeration and engineering. the hire workers from 638 and work in places from 20 to 60 minutes from stroudsburg
