What is the brand of the unit? It is possible that your compressor might be running backwards but it's weird that you left everything is working great and now it's not working again. Been there too we all have been there

It's an ICP which is either Tempstar or Heil I believe. As far as running backward, I'm not sure how that would have happened and no other rtus up there are having any issues but would have to check my phasing with tester. Then if I find phasing has changed go to the panel and beyond. I have seen that happen more often than not either on new install wherein someone didn't check their phasing prior to installing at disconnect or else a trans at pole was recently changed and phasing got switched around coming in. Don't know if panel has a phase alert on it or not. I don't think being out of phase would account for shorted contactor coil however but I can't say for sure. I have had phase shifted before but other than possible compressor damage, I have not seen any other components burned up by it.

I am 99% positive reversed in the phases won't do anything to the controls make that 100%. The only thing that it does is make all the motors that are 3-phase run the other direction unfortunately a compressor can be damaged if left that way long enough. When you gauge it up you will see if it's running in the wrong direction you know it makes lousy noises but it also as a little bit more equalize pressures your suction pressure will be high in your discharge will be low
