What about to the top of the vessel? Is there a vent? If there is then is it to the leaving side of the condenser or the entering side?

The pipe on the right side is the drain leg from the condenser.
The pipe on the left side is the liquid supply to the liquid header.
the vessel sitting above where the two lines meet is either a receiver or surge tank...or is it the same thing

I knew i should have looked closer
all i remember now is there was a A9 valve off of the discharge line pipped into the side of the vessel. would assume it is to keep pressure up in the tank to force liquid out?
if i get time today, ill go back and look at more pipes.
Surge tank, reciever, same thing. Your right about the A9 valve. Tim
In our area we have alot of older racks that don't have a A9 or ORD, but use a 5/8 solenoid, cycled by an extinct Attron control that uses a electronic liquid line sight glass. Its making for some good work removing them and installing ORI and ORD valves.
