Drill Clutch?

I have not been able to get a straight answer out of anyone i work with.
Does the clutch on my drill just affect the RPM?
How do i determine where to set it to benefit from it?

The clutch does not affect the RPM of the drill.
What the clutch does is limit the amount of torque transfered to the attachment being used.

By properly setting the clutch when screwing in fasteners you will neither be snapping fasteners nor stripping out holes.
If you want to drill something turn the clutch all the way up to the end which will lock out the clutch.

If you want to install a small self tapping screw into a thin sheetmetal duct for example dial down the clutch to around 1/4 of it's range and try that. if it slips before penetrating the metal the clutch is set too loose (low).
If it drills all the way in and strips the threads spinning the fastener freely in the hole the clutch is set too tight (high)
