    CCN bus conversion help

    We have a job that has a 3 wire CCN bus we are removing all the ccn controllers and installing a johnson we can convert the bus to either N2 or MSTP does anybody have any experience good or bad doing this?

    It depends on the condition of the wiring. N2 runs at a lower baud rate than the average MS/TP network. If all the wiring is in good shape and the physical network configuration is ok (no T taps, etc...) then I'd go with MS/TP - you'll have more options available down the road if you want to add third party controllers to the network.

    Yes, because it operates at higher speeds it's more prone to
    "issues" on a maginal network. N2 runs at 9600 whereas MS/TP
    goes all the way up to 156k, although it is usually set around 38 to 56k.
    Having said that, I have yet to have any problems retrofiting buildings
    with JCI MS/TP controllers.

    ideally, you want 22 gage for the mstp bus. limitations in length and baud rate apply for substitutions. if your bus is short, then no problem.
