    Furnace blower upgrade?

I have a solid fuel furnace that came with a Dayton direct drive furnace blower. I was wondering if anyone has an idea of what I could use to have a quieter unit? Also are the "old" belt drive blowers quieter?
    Thanks

Make Mod & Sr #’s would be a big help. Also how old is this system?

This is the Grainger Model #1XJX8. I installed the furnace 3 weeks ago. It is an Alaska 140 Coal Stoker. It works great but I do not like hearing the motor. The unit comes with a speed control and I have it running on low. I believe it is the motor not the air that I hear.

belt driven units use less electricity... air volume is a function of the sound too.. but if your using low speed youd most likely be happier with a 3 amp draw instead of 6 or 9 amps.

    Fixitguy,
In your opinion, would a belt drive blower be quieter? Also my idea is to install a longer blower shaft and mount the motor outside the ductwork.
    Thanks,Tom

Altering the blower by converting it to a belt drive voids its UL approval, and your insurance company does not have to cover you if there would be a fire from the failure caused by the altered blower set up.

    Dangerous idea.
