when I was growing up I used to show cattle and hogs at the fair, it was kinda fun, it counted as school if you were in ag and then you got to screw around the fair grounds having fun while everbody else was in school.

The bad/funny part was getting some ten year old kid leading a 1000 lb steer and the steer gets spooked and the kid was too dumb to let go of it. Saw a bunch of those. Sometimes I was a slacker and waited until the last minute to break my calf to lead, so I would hook his halter to a tractor, and drag it around and let it teach it who to follow.

After a while I gave up on the cattle end of it as they were a PITA and got into raising hogs, I had the Grand Champion three times at the Clay county fair in NW Ia at the time it was one of the largest in the area, so it was quite a deal, but this is where it got fun, while I was away showing my hogs, the class had a vote on what they wanted to pull the class float, and I had a new tricked out Ford pickup, and they decided that they were going to use it, but they never asked me, so the day they wanted to get it I was jacking with them, and told them no, but I gave in and told them if anything happened to my truck my fault, their fault, or anybodies fault, they had to fix it, and they said okay. There was nothing wrong with the truck, it only had about 13,000 miles on it, but as they were getting ready to pull on the football field, it died, and they couldn't get it to re start.

Ford's great plastic timing gear broke, and it was just out of warranty, back in the 70's it was only 12,000 miles, and the dealer wouldn't do anything, so they got to pay for it. Sure pissed a bunch of people off, except me
