since we're all about customer education, i though that showing pics of improper installations could save people some grief if they correct any problems now instead of later.
here's the 1st batch...
entitled "oops - installed upside down (not designed for horizontal-right discharge)!
condensate had been dripping on the insulation for about 10 years (since the drip tray is ABOVE the coil)

surprised there's not a big ole' mushroom growing in there!

That's one way to keep the drip tray from rusting out.
Do you know what kind of company did the original work?

Looks like there's pans on both ends. Some other problem maybe.

yup, there's pans on both ends, but look again jack. the pan now on top has the 2 red drain plugs for horizontal LEFT install, with the insulated metal drip tray draining into that top pan (that should be on the bottom).

Looks like someone did not read the installation instructions, or at least skipped the page on converting.
If you really know how it works, you have an execellent chance of fixin' er up!
Tomorrow is promised to no one...

not sure if this unit is convert-able. the 2 brackets on the cabinet do not seem to be aligned to allow a conversion for horizontal right (intertherm)

neither. school. 6 split sytems total on this wing, 5 upflow, same brand, 3.5 ton hps.
this is the only one horizontal out of the 6. i could smell something was wrong the second i walked into this office. p-u.
yeah, good for biz alright, but being at a school, must be VERY careful with iaq issues, mold etc. this particular unit conditions only a staff members office, not a classroom, luckily.
the same guy i inherited all this stuff from had "adapted" the 3" vent pipe on the rheem furnaces he replaced (4) to the existing 5" pipe with foil tape! at a school (pre-k - 6th)!

Hey Boss!
you da man!
the sad thing is, this topic should be unnecessary. it'll probably have a bunch of posts in short order. we'll all chuckle about our potential good customers misfortunes, while they get a bad taste for the industry, and will from then on view all of us as hacks (at least initially).
it's a shame, really
