I went to the "here go try to fix this" school of hard knocks. If I electrocuted myself or smoked a part I knew I did something wrong.

I went through an automotive apprenticeship. while It didn't do much for the refrigeration side of things, the electronics and mechanical aspects more than made up for it

I studied HVAC at SCC Milford, a local community college. Then I went to Knocksville University and the real learning started. Still haven't graduated from that one, probably never will, does anyone!

Penn Foster's HVAC technician professional degree and trying to get an associates in mechanical and electrical engineering technology from the Air Force Community College. None of it is really helpful without the hands on

    Aerovox, Good Man!

I think that BOTH is best, but study, study, study, and when the "hands on"comes along, it will be so much more easier and then so much more rewarding.

And as pecmsg said; its all Continuing Education!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the lessons learned in the school of hard knocks seem to really stick with us.

3rd generation hvac. So I knew more than the high school vo-tech teacher "Mr. Collins" could teach everyone else in 6th grade. He still calls me to take calls when he is out of town. I took welding in tech school because he told my dad his class would not help me and 17yrs. later can barely MIG. I wish I would have done anything else tech school offered like computers or something because I use one daily and still 2 finger type.

Robert Morgan Educational Center in magic city . A crazy Cuban teacher taught us. I would annoy him from info I would read on Hvac talk. But he knew his stuff and he taught us well.
