They should officially lay you off. They already in effect have, they just aren't letting you collect.
Requiring you to be on call and not paying you is bad enough; and to not have work, and not let you draw unemployment is even worse.
Have you spoken up about them not laying you off? Think you and the boss need to have a chat.
Don't know your situation, but I'd be talking to them about why they seem to be stringing you along.
If they want you around as an insurance policy when a service call comes in,then they should be paying at least ,at minimum, what unemeployment would be.
My 2 cents....GO DAWGS!

Think it's bad now? Just wait a few months.
I've been steady at work...but I do commercial construction. A lot, if not all, of the companies in the area are getting slow. I have steady work for at least 3-4 months.
People in the area are starting to get a little freaked.
I hear the Chicago area is hurting BAD.___________________________

hardly any new construction this way. Maintenances are down.... service calls are down.... but with this cold spell... its picking up some. Suppose to be in the 20's here on thursday... that will be 3 days of cold.... now to make it a week! (I cant believe I am saying I want it cold!) That will bring in more work! ( I hope!)

Very slow for us. haven't been this slow since 9/11.
Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Establish your priorities and go to work." H.L. Hunt
"In order that people may be happy in their work, these three things are needed: They must be fit for it. They must not do too much of it. And they must have a sense of success in it." John uskin
