No bonus here this year, course, for the last... oh handful of years I've gotten less than $50. Not saying I don't appreciate it, but not getting it doesn't really effect me either.

On the bright side, the union magically did something good (had to be a mistake huh?), and I've got a couple more dollars an hour coming my way Jan 1st, plus a raise for my union apprenticeship... so hopefully the paychecks in january will make me rich lol

I've never had a bonus at Christmas.

Why do HVAC technicians expect a Christmas bonus?
Perhaps you should have read the instructions before calling.

We gave out Christmas bonuses this year but they are like 75% less than last year. I think the folks understand that we are just trying to keep the boat afloat and it is no reflection on anyone's job proformance.

I don't mean my post to be negative.

I've just never seen an industry like our industry that expects a bonus at Christmas.

You should hear the guys griping that they don't have money for gifts.

Uhhh, how about a budget? If you get a bonus, then that's just gravy money.

Exactly right. I have never expected a Christmas bonus. Got a few, didn't get some. Never bothered me.

I think what happens is employers give bonuses, and, after a couple of years of getting bonuses, we begin to expect them as a matter of course.

If you, as a boss, gave me a bonus for 5 years running, it stands to reason that I'll get it again.

    I couldn't give out bonus's this year.

What I did do is give all the install guys off the day before and the day after christmas off with pay. I gave the techs the after Christmas and the day after new years.

i would rather have this than a bonus. instead this year, i have to come back for one day... the day after thanksgiving, the day after Christmas, the day after new years.

it's really frustrating to me!! travel to family, just to turn around and travel right back to work one day!!!!!!!
