Scared of heights
I was just wondering if there are any techs out there afraid of heights. I was on a call the other day and the manager was afraid to get on a 3' ladder because of his fear of heights. I've never heard of such a thing I couldn't image an HVAC tech who was afaid of heights I was just wondering if there were any.

I never been afraid of heights, but one of my co-workers is.He goes up and down ladders and works off of them.He just is a slow mover when he is on one.

I used to be... for me it was just being around them enough that got me comfortable with them.
Long as I feel safe, I'm fine... ask me to walk across a 30 year old plank between 2 cooling towers, I don't care how far up, or low they are, and I'm not a happy camper"If you call that hard work, a koalas life would look heroic."

Personally, I've got very little fear of heights. Rock climbing cured me of that,
Two of my co workers are at least mildly afraid of heights. Our apprentice is getting better, when he started, I could barely get him up a six foot ladder, let alone up an extension ladder.
The other guy is a bit of an old dog, and not likely to change. He'll work on a ladder, but he doesn't like it.

Afraid of a three foot ladder? The only way I could see that, is if that person was never a tech. Some companies hire managers with no technical experience only managerial experience.
I think many techs have at least some fear of heights but experience helps lessen it.

Not me, I climb around like a spider monkey. My old boss was though...hell, he wouldnt even get up on the roof. He would take his slow biscuit eatin ass up the ladder one rung at a time. When he would reach the top, he would peek his eyeballs over the ledge and start barking out orders while holding on for dear life.
Still makes me laugh when I think about it.

i am afraid of falling. as long as i have something to hold on too all is right in my world. i was standing on the 3rd rung of a 6' ladder doing duct work when my left knee dislocated. when i hit the ground my leg just didnt look right. so i snapped it back in place and strapped on both knee braces. yes i have bad knees and that is the reason for my fear. but as long as i can hold on to something im ok

I have a tech that is afraid of heights. He was white knuckled last summer when we gave him a call. Takes a 20' extension to get to the roof.
He traded calls. Tech never had to get on the roof. Problem was a bad blower motor in the closet on the first floor.
He only caught a little grief.

Wait till you fall off a ladder. It will slow you down too.

I was when I started in the trade. Not really anymore..... unless I feel like I'm in an unsafe position. But that's what they make safety harnesses for.
