How current is this software and what are it's applications?
Does it work for the VAV UCM 4.2? How about the MP580?
I'm not really familiar with it's capabilities, but I deal with lots of Trane equipment/controls regularly, and I think it could be useful.

It won't work with any Trane VAV controllers or the 580. It will probably work with some ZN 510's and not much else. The current software is version 6 and 7 will probably be out this year.

Is the upgrade software cheaper than a full version- or does it matter?
