I think someone forgot a step somewhere
It's hard to believe that someone would have enough sense to install an ac/furnace yet leave this.
In particular, pay attention to where the new flue pipe is exhausting.

judging by the roof it looks like it been like that awhile
also there is no p-trap on the drain

I don't know how long it's been like that. The furnace doesn't look like it's more than a couple of years old, but it's hard to say. I tried to get them to give me the name of the installer so I could have them come back out and fix it. She said she didn't remember. She's elderly, so it could be true. She's also on a fixed income. I need to find someone that will fix it and not charge a whole lot. It doesn't seem like it would be alot of work. The hole is already in the roof. It's just a matter of extending the flue up through the roof and sealing it. Am I right about that, or is there some hidden cost I don't see?

If that drain pipe was going down to an open floor drain or pump I see no need for a p-trap, but if they left the vent like that I’m sure they didn’t care too much about the drain either. Originally Posted by HVAC2B
