    Lennox XP15 defrost cycle noise

    This lennox XP15 2 ton heat pump makes a heck of a racket on the defrost cycle. The outside temp was 37 f. Has anyone had similar experiences with this model or is this one a lemon?

    At 11 seconds that was normal reversing valve,but at 45 seconds that compressor is loud!!

    We have installed many of those units and they do not sound like that. Call your service company to check it out.

    have it checked out.

    That model is supposed to turn off completely to allow the pressures to equalize before the compressor turns back on... The timing is around 30 seconds so that is good....

    Have them check to start components for the compressor as well as charge and whether the pressures are equalizing like they should. Definately not a normal sound....


    Does it make this noise when the unit starts in heat or is this only a defrost issue?

    On the out door circuit board there is a pin for the defrost cycle timing.
    Below those setting is a pin for compressor cycling.
    On the XP-15 that pin needs to be in place,
    On the XP-13 that pin needs to be removed.

    That pin allows the compressor to shut down for about 30 seconds and lowers the pressure to allow for a smoother defrost switch over and cycle
    If you try to fail, and succeed.
    Which have you done ?

    The unit does make a loud startup noise but not as loud as when on defrost (2:05 on video).
