    spyders are killing me

i also posted this over in the hw forum graveyard

conecting to a spyder through a jace seems to be agonizingly slow.

when drilling down into apps in my control program it seems to take forever for the app to open. i end up with 10 tabs opened to speed things up.
just to make a couple changes or bounce around to figure out a problem is torture. even on my office jace a 600 with em and one spyder just dogs along. maybe the new spyders will be quicker with all the extra power.
when i go into select points for debug it litterally takes minutes to close the window after i select ok

am i the only one experiencing this or am i just doing something wrong.

Through the Jace they are painfully slow, have you tried to tunnel through??

I have used the tunnel a ton, but I don't think ever on a Spyder change on a bunch of Spyders, might be worth a shot??

It's not just you, it is slow. However, if you think this is bad try it with a 201 or 403 it's brutal.

Where is the Spyder Tool App located when you tunnel? I'm thinking it'd be in the PC you're using?
We have been told to load the Spyder tool in the JACE for remote access capability. Otherwise we'd have to physically connect to the LON bus to use the Spyder Tool in our PC's.
    Thoughts?

I think I remember reading somewhere to not use a spyder with a 201.

they dont recommend with a 201, but there is a workaround. In my experience I have not experienced this problem. I have dl programs multiple times without it being to bad.

    Could you share the workaround?
    And it's limitations?

Never tried with a 201, but have read of people who have. If I am not mistaken I did run across some literature on it a while back. I will see if I cant find it and get it to you.

go to HW bldg forums and do a search on jace 201 and spyder. Got numerous hits on that one. One guy had 6 pul's on a 201.

I've only played with a spyder in our shop as a demo but was told if you use a Jace 2 you should program the spyder with you computer, generate an XIF and pull into the jace as a just Lon device. Don't put the spyder modules on the Jace 2. I was also told that when figureing out your resource usage you should count a spyder as 2.25 Lon devices. These recomendations where from a Honeywell tech guy with the last name of Hutchey. I don't know his first name but believe it was John. I have never spoke with him but according to Vern from MOV training he "IS" the man when it comes to the spyder and Honeywell Web's and those were his recomendations.

What version is the spyder jar files up to at this point? I know in the limited time frame I was playing with them I had 3 different versions. I recieved one from the distributer when I bought a couple Spyders, another from Vern at MOV and then during the course of a three day WEBs class with Vern a third version came out. This was all in the course of about a month. I would assume since that was around a year ago several more have came out since.

The latest version of the Spyder Tool is 2.0.2 (for the new SYLK Enhanced controllers). If you are not using these then Spyder Tool 1.18.4 should work just fine. Spyders are slow, just the nature of the beast in their current form. It is not recommended to use a Spyder with a JACE 201 due to it's resource demands. If you must, you may want to try bringing it in as a dynamic device. This will increase dramatically the amount of Spyders you can use with a 201. You will need to create a station on your laptop just for the Spyder DB but this may get you off your job. Also if you run the Spyder DB on your laptop you can Lon Tunnel thru the JACE to service the Spyders without loadinng the Tools directly on the JACE.
    Hope this helps.

This was the case with the first Spyder tool. I have multiple jobs with Spyders and 201's and one of them has 7 spyders and works with no problems, except trying to run debug which is painfully slow.

The original workaround with the old Spyder tool was to do as previously stated and engineer, commission, and download them on your pc and then discover them as dynamic devices.

We only use Jace 600's now, why still slow with Spyders it is a major improvement.

As stated, just make your changes on your eng pc and then copy the station to the jace.
