In every instance where I've replaced an evaporator coil, the manufacturer throws in a new TXV. I've always just assumed that it's standard practice to replace the TXV with the coil, but I was wondering, is it possible to reuse an existing TXV as long as it's not overheated and the coil is an exact match?

Yea I'm doing an evap right now and reusing the TXV. If it ain't broke why fix it.
The only time I reuse a txv is when the new coil comes with piston. Hasn't hurt me yet; knock on fukn wood.
We reuse them now and then. No issues as of yet. Usually if it's an older refrigerant or the new ones cost a lot. Some carrier ones are 3-4x higher than a standard one....
The ones I've seen are either part of the coil from factory, or the manufacturer wants you to remove the old txv and put it on the new coil.

Technically yes, I wouldn't think you have anything to gain from not using the new one. Unless you want a used txv in the truck as a hopeful repair. Or a new txv that sits forever in your truck until hopefully the same model has a failure.
I've done it before on coil change outs & never had a problem. As long as it was working fine before I'd reuse it. There's no guarantee a new one will do any better or as good as the old one.

I would say you can but if you budget allows it, I would just change it out to be on the safe side since you are installing a new eval coil.
If its a bolt on TXV then I see no reason why it needs to be replaced unless it is bad. If it is a sweat in TXV the new coil should already have one installed at least in my experience.

If your installing a new coil, might as well include a new valve especially if it's a sweat in.
Otherwise, I've reused them with no ill effects. The vast majority of issues I've experienced have been related to the power head. 10 minutes worth of work and a new head and all is well.

Recently worked on a job, 2- 7 1/2t r22 splits, new indoor units were r410a, we swapped power heads from the r410a over to r22 now I'm waiting for warmer weather to start and run. The one Tech wanted to braze out,braze in the new r22 TXV.
Most TXV (SAE) can be reused w/ no problem other than a SH adjustment.!

Being I don't play TXV Roulette.I get a new valve with a new coil.It goes on.I'm replacing a known coil,upgrade,fin pack leak,etc.I''ll take a chance.Then your on an Unknown and all the TXV 'gunk' issue's.No thanks.
Is there any difference in the Valve Spring from 22-410?
I can understand 'adjustment' of said but the question remains till Mon and I can ask a real person rather Mr. Googler.
