    the GOOD ship AMERICA

this is how I see it, and you dont have to agree or disagree, but I would like some constructive criticism.

this country can be compared to a large sailing vessel. The KEEL of this ship is the CONSTITUTION of The United States. As long as the keel goes undamaged, the prevailing winds can blow the boat over to the left, or to the right, but the KEEL will always right the ship.

To put this another way, a pendulum will always seek center. If the pendulums input takes it waaay off center, it tries, that much harder to find center.

This is why I am not "worried" about Obama. Even if he should somehow get elected, its not the end of the world as we know it, and the sky will not fall.
He will surround himself with others wiser in the ways of the government and its workings. And, fortunately in this scenario, the President does not really have THAT MUCH POWER. They all say "we are going to A B C", but they KNOW that they alone cannot do squat.

My point here is that as long as the constitution remains intact, we will be OK.

    Your thoughts?

    I agree, BUT:

We have trashed the constitution in many ways, and there are many laws on the books that are not in agreement with the intent of the writers of that great document.

However; having said that this thread will probably go to a discussion of what laws and what interpretation...

My personal view is that the constitution is NOT a living document (changing all the time). Rather it is a set of guidelines we all should work/live within. Kinda like a final authority that does NOT change.

I like your KEEL example above, it portrays the movement of society as it grows and develops; but the bringing back to an original point needed to maintain balance w/out aimlessly drifting w/out a rudder...

Will we survive an Obama presidency? Yes.

Will there be irreversible damage done? Also yes.

This country has been creeping toward socialism for many years. Under an Obama presidency/Pelosi-Reid congress we will see a dramatic lurch to the left. The problem with changes like this is that we never move back in the other direction. Every time we expand social programs we open a can of worms that is almost impossible to close back up.

If we don't wake up soon, it may be too late to save this great country of ours.

yep, I agree. But there is much more to this. One is that the President CAN & WILL appoint supreme court justices. No biggie, right?~~~~wrong.

Once a Justice is appointed and approved they are a Supreme Court Judge FOR LIFE and they can work till the day they die, there is no mandatory retirement age. And these are the guys that will allow or dismiss laws that will affect your life...forever.

For example: the Supreme court just ruled that the second amendment is an individual right to keep and bear arms. Whats to prevent Obama to appoint a justice or justices (a couple have eluded to retirement) that will over turn this decision and pass an amendment that eliminates the 2nd amendment. Or Roe v. Wade, or a host of other major decisions.

Obama and the liberals could and I believe will destroy this country with a bloated, over taxed social agenda.

Should you worry, you bet your butt

I like the ship's keel parable as long as the keel stays strong enough and is not whittled down too much to stay effective.

At the moment, financially, the U.S. is also like a large ship that has just hit an iceburg. We are still afloat but taking on water fast. If we act swiftly we can save most of what we have to continue on and rebuild in the near future. If we don't act swiftly, we are going to wind up on the bottom of the frigid ocean.

Or, we could just say we are up the creek without a paddle.

hopefully, we will not be tacking anytime in the near future.

*for you non-sailors, "tacking" is turning, relative to the wind, so as to place the wind on the opposite side of the boat, causing the boat to list in the opposite direction.

what do we do? I'm talking to neighbors. Palin is the selling point.
