    Thumbs up Light Commercial Refrigeration

    Natepickle,

I work for a company that does Light commercial refrigeration service....I will answer your question with the following information:

Light commercial is from what I have learned to be systems with compressors 10 horsepower or less. The light commercial market consists refrigeration equipment found in bars, florist shops, restaurants, schools, convenient stores, drive through stores, hotels, nursing homes, and small markets. At least that is what my company does for the most part. The equipment is primarily ice machines, walk-in freezers and coolers, reach-in freezers and coolers, ice cream machines, and other smaller type stuff.

I can tell you that I rarely work over 40 hours in a week, however if we did supermarkets, it would be a different story.

In light commercial you are more likely to see more calls in a day but that varies and the smaller equipment can be a real bear to work on.

Hopefully this answers your question about light commercial refrigeration.

Welcome to the market world. you can and will learn something new every day. Keep an open mind. Remember the market world can be a very feast or famine business, at least were i'm from so try to make the hay when the sun shines and save it for the rainy days.

I have been doing this for a long time. 11 years. I love it and I hate it.

I never worry anymore like I use to when I would be off because it was slow. I never could figure out why I worried about being slow for a week or two. I just figured if I didn't worry, I'd jinx myself like I have heard and seen some hard times hit many people in this business. But the funny thing is, that supermarket refrigeration is about demand for talent. The talented will always eat.

I have less talent, but I make up for it by not giving up. LOL.

I did do HVAC for about 1 year cumilative. I just could not acclimate to it. MANY of the HVAC guys I had worked with were not even close to the talent I had seen and now still with in the supermarket world. I know that is being somewhat derrogatory torwards HVAC guys. But in my experience, that has been the case.

supermarket refrigeration..........oh man is there hours in this field, I have already payed of most of my credit card bills, its true that 8 and 5 are just times of the day, there has been times when all of sudden i see a bunch of traffic, i look at the clock displaying 5:00pm, and realize that oh yeah this is the time that most folks get to go home. Its also amazing how well you can sleep in the seated position after working 20 hours, your on your way home and you pull over somewhere to sleep a bit and you knock the hell out. But i have to keep going because i need a new pair of crocodile boots.
I will take a bullet for my Veto LC tool bag!
