Get a Crash dump from the BCU and post the information. That will help.
One of my customers has a BCU that keeps losing communication. A power cycle usually gets it back. When it has failed it has an error code of "L" on the internal BCU display. It translates to "boot loader not found service required". Does anyone have an idea on cause? It sounds as if it trys to reboot and can't.

I have seen this happen in aged bcu's. Seems like as soon as Trane Digital parts reach the five year mark they start to fail.
I will get the dump. It's about 90 miles so it will be a couple of days. This BCU is probably 8 or 9 years old. I'll let you know.
Unseat and clean all of the contacts on the comm cards and memory modules.
We took out all the boards and cleaned the contacts on the boards and in the sockets with contact cleaner and dried with canned air. We also installed a small muffin fan to keep air moving and avoid any condensation on contacts. The contacts looked good. I haven't done a crash dump in 9 years, what is the procedure?
Use Hyperterminal. Connect to the Mini Monitor Port. I think the baud is 9600 Baud. I may be wrong on theat one.
Hey guys, I’m no expert on Trane, Honeywell, Johnson or any other control outfit. But I have been around long enough to have observed the reliability these company’s controls over the years. Trane has the same problems as everybody else does when it comes to digital controls and the software that run them. Not too long ago I had to put up with an almost identical problem with a BCU for months. I must have loss about eighty hours of sleep between the shut downs and midnight emergency calls. After the issue was fixed, basically through the methods being recommended, I realized that the time I lost was more valuable. I wish I had had a spare and I would have just changed out the old one.
Assuming this is a BTMW.
1. Bad memory card.
2. Bad mother board.
I have dought in the 5 year comment as I have seen MANY in operation well past that time frame.
Beware of the prophet trying to make a profit.
There is less oxygen from knee level to the floor! Check it out next time you tie your boots.
We have several BCU's under contract of all vintages. Whenever I have had a BCU problem I could not resolve, replacing the memory card, while not cheap is less than the cost of a BCU, and has cured the problem EVERY time for me.

BRD01669 part number just replaced one yesterday
You have probably covered this, but have you tried new firmware
Thank you all. Our 1st thought was a bad capacity board, $570.00 for standard. We are going to put in a UPS just to eliminate possibility of power spikes. We will do all the stuff everyone suggested and probably end up with the capacity board. I will let you all know how it turns out.
After spending the day observing the BCU we found that the memory card was indeed bad. The BCU kept trying to reboot itself and gave the error message for a bad capacity card. We will install it tomorrow and solve the problem.
We got good pricing by leveraging our local Trane office against Midwest Trane until we got equal or better prices. 5 of us in our office used to work at Trane also. That might have helped. Thanks to all.
