Title: Residential Kitchen Makeup Air: Designing and Specifying Code Compliant Systems
Overview: New code requirements and green building programs are pushing the limits on air-tight construction. Simultaneously, concerns for indoor air quality have resulted in code requirements for makeup air for large kitchen range hoods. Throw combustion appliances into the mix - with options of naturally vented, mechanically vented, and direct vented - and this gets confusing in a hurry! This session will help HVAC contractors, builders, and code officials develop a deeper understanding of makeup air and avoid unnecessary project delays associated with puzzling code requirements. You'll also get a primer on the building science behind makeup air and a test drive of a free internet-based tool that will help you select and specify code-compliant makeup air systems. The course has been approved for BPI CEU's.
- Understand the codes and standards requirements as related to makeup air system specification and sizing.
- Identify the primary building science concepts behind kitchen exhaust ventilation, depressurization, and makeup air.
- Learn how to use a free online tool for sizing and specifying code-compliant makeup air systems
- Earn BPI CEU credits
