Is there a connection between undersized line sets and compressor failure?

I have an almost 3 year old Fedder heat pump. It stopped working in a few months ago. The compressor burnt out twice. The repairman told me he didn't know what happened to it. He said that the refriderant lines were contaminated. Anyways, I checked the manual and the line sets that are required are either 5/15 & 5/8 (for 15 feet) or 3/8 & 3/4 (for 25 feet). My lines are the original lines. My home is 22 years old. My current lines are 1/4 and 5/8. Would this cause the compressor to burn out?

If so, is there a website or book you could recommend that addresses this issue?

How long are you linesets now?

It could cause many issues from capacity loss, poor oil return...ect.

If it was a burn out there should have been a cleanup procedure when the compressor was replaced.
