    Compressor Problem

Just replaced a compressor on a Carrier condensing unit , m# 38YC060-301 s#3698E01142 , compressor m# SBD600C01 ,vacuum and weigh in charge R22 ,start up unit ,low side 75psi ,high side 290psi ,aftr unit ran for about five minutes ,low side drop to 55psi ,high side stay the same ,suction line and accumanator start frost up .Outdoor temp. 100 degrees, indoor temp.89 degrees. Draw 23 amp, name plate 30 amp.20 degrees subcooling . Front seat high side valve ,high side drp to zero ,low side only pull down to 25 psi and then went back ip to 55psi ,high side went up to 150 psi .Could it be the compressor not pumping 100% that cause the frost up ?

compressor is fine you have a restriction in the system. Did you replace the filter dryer? Or install a new one if one was not installed?

If you don't know, then don't do. If you don't know and still do, then be prepared to pay someone else a lot to undo what you did and then do it right.

If you do know, then do. But do it right. Otherwise, you may not be doing it long.

all depends on the system, total charge, any pressure switches, etc.etc...

Also if it's a newer scroll compressor their is an internal relief that won't always alow you to pull the system into a total vaccume.

Thats why you can't pull a vaccume your probably doing this on a hot day and your high pressure cut out is opening the contacor.

    comprssor Problem

High side cut out did not open the contactor .Unit still running while low side pull down to 25psi . Did not do a acid test . Did check out the oil in the old compressor ,it's looks pretty clean . Can you tell a burnout from the oil .Or acid test is the only way to find out ?

You can tell some acid burn outs from the oil with out the test kit.

But that is not your current problem.

    talk to your service manager.

Sounds like Run and start were shorted together, or comp. was locked, find the restriction, and stop blaming the compressor.
