Sometimes you get what you pay for. Looks like low bidder won the job.
Not what it use to be

Go look at "The Wall Of Shame". See if you still think the same. Work like this make all the good guys look like bums. It's a shame but, it's true.

I bet this job is in Anderson SC. Some contractor here spread mastic on the AHU and the duct insulation and say they have sealed the ducts.
    No supply and return plenums.

    RB282

Ask the builder to see the copy of the Manual J and D. Watch him wiggle.
Ask to see the HVAC contractors license.
Ask to see the dampers, if there is none ask how is he going to balance the load.
Ask if the HVAC contractor sized the unit to the sensible and latent heat load.

Make him do it right IAW code and ACCA.

    Its your house and money.

    I don't see no plenums.

    I see air flow issues.

I see you learning the names of all the HVAC contractors service guys. Quickly.

Whoever designed/installed that needs to have their tools taken away, at the very least...

I'm not sure it would be possible to get valid ESP numbers to compare with the blower performance chart, lol.
If more government is the answer, then it's a really stupid question.

Is it 2 different units ????

I just glanced thru seeing what all the excitement is about... I didn't pick up on it being 2 different units... are they in the same home. ????????
One unit has white fiberglass around it.... the other has yellow fiberglass
One unit has truss kickers behind it the other doesn't...

I guess who cares about that .... still pathetic install !!!

And we professionals agree, but it still is not a place to bash contractors. We are here to improve our industry, not to hear how bad we are.

There are several things that I don't personally like about that installation, but if the systems work, there is nothing really horrendous.

I can not for the life of me understand why contractors don't get air handlers higher off of drain pans so there is plenty of room to put in proper condensate traps and be easier to work on. Also, not having even a two foot section of supply or return plenum is just asking for unnecessary problems.

    Bohica

Unfortunatly you are a classic victim of a skilled BOHICA HVAC contractor who also has a Mastic Fetish , BOHICA runs rampant through the industry and is prevalant in hot climates , especially when competion and skilled labor issues arise .
i have found that there is no cure for BOHICA it will remain in our industry until we come together nationwide and create a national ( enforcable ) licence. i judge that day will not come in my lifetime !
In houston the city code states " no expiration on a defective installation " which has no effect on BOHICA contractors because they dont pull permits !
