A/C Lineset - inside or out

We are having a new A/C unit installed, and we are sliding it about 20 feet along the back of our house to get it out of the way. If we cut a new hole to run the lineset inside, it will run perpindicular to the joists (unfinished basement) for the twenty foot difference. I dont want to have to drop the ceiling any lower than it is when I finish the basement.

The contractor said we can just run it outside and through the existing hole in the wall. He says it doesn't lose efficiency, but I find this hard to believe when it will be sitting outside in the hot sun all day. Is he correct? Pros and cons for either method?

    Thanks again

Won;t lose anymore if as much as a line set ran through a 120° attic.

Do you mean by that either way will be fine? It's a cool basement, not a 120 degree attic.

    Thanks

You will be fine. Just make sure the lineset is properly insulated, mainly so the suction line doesn't sweat, not because of temp transfer losses.

Ran outside on the wall is fine.

Many line sets are ran through attics much hotter then what your outdoor temp will be.
