I moved into a 2000 sq (excluding unfinished basement) ft 77 year old home. The home is three levels with one of them being an unfinished basement. The back room on the lower level is an addition of one bedroom and one bathroom. Upstairs is two more bedrooms and one bathroom. When we purchased the house the previous owners failed to mention a problem with the a/c. Lets just say the second floor stays around 78 degrees even with the a/c system on all day.
The system is a Heil 2.5 ton with a gas furnace also.
My plan was to install (have installed) a new system for the upstairs two bedrooms.
I have gotten numerous quotes and the one I decided on is
2.0 ton american standard
2.5 ton airhandler
10 kw heat strip
ductwork in attic into existing ductwork and new ducts to each bedroom
return in ceiling
blocking flow from original unit upstairs, ect.
I am also having to get a lot of electrical done (my panel is full, and it is split bus). I am bringing it up to code with a new 200 amp panel, line for condenser and lines for attic.
The first number job includes doing some repairs to old system including adding insulated flex duct to the addition on the 1st floor and replacing the line set on the old unit (faulty install).
Am I doing the right thing?
