    Confused Trane vs Goodman

I am trying to replace a 4 ton Armstrong unit both the outside unit and the inside unit/furnace. I got quotes for Trane and Goodman. The installer said Goodman is better. What are the opinions?

I wouldnt necessarily say goodman is better. But with proper installation and set up, they are both comparable.

    Carrier is better.

On a serious note, installation holds priority over brand name. They are all similar in many respects. Were the quotes from the same company?

    Call another contractor or 2.

    Nothing wrong with Goodman.

Agreed. Also get references and make sure it is a reputable company.

What we see in this down economy,is dealers getting the price close to the same ,for very differently priced brands and recommending the lower priced brand,so they make a little more money.

For comparable equipment, the Goodman may be a "better" value, but not necessarily "better" equipment.

If the price is the same for both brands, then the Goodman system may have more features for the same amount of money. Again, neither are "better" then the other as far as comparable features and benefits are concerned. maybe the contractor is considering the warranties, in which case the Goodman may have a better warranty.

As already stated, either brand installed properly will be good for you.

Trane hands down, but get other estimates and consider all your options. Do your homework on each brand and I highly suggest an extended warranty from the manufacturer that covers parts and labor.

Why? What are your reasons for this bias? Be specific please.

I understand that install is crucial. I won't disagree with that at all. but is there a reason that Carrier and Trane are more expensive? simply name? or they are better quality, even if not better enough for some to justify the additional cost?

I just had installed a Carrier Infinity system, but you will not hurt my feelings with your professional opinions. I am one who does believe you get what you pay for in most areas.
