Do it yourself air conditioning sites like this XXXXXXX make homeowners think everything is so easy. But in reality sites like this are only going to get people who have no clue what they are doing injured or killed. If it was as easy as watching a DVD to install a new system we would all be out of jobs. Besides that you cant trust a website that tells you Goodman is the #1 rated HVAC manufacturer

Installing new refrigeration systems is easy for people who use common sense. Legally, you still need your EPA license if you need to add refrigerant. If you have the tools, it's probably going to be easy for you. This will not put anyone out of a job. There are plenty of people who do not want to do it themselves, and who'd be better off doing overtime at their job and paying someone who has experience. Also, if you don't have the tools, it's probably not worth buying the equipment just to do your own home.

I wish we had more people who did things themselves. Too few people spend the time to learn new things, which is why people kill themselves.

I love DIYers. I have made more money from people who have made a lot worse of a mess of their systems then was the original fault because they were so frustrated over their screwing up that they just wanted to pay me and get me out of their lives again.

I don't? Why is it you suggest people use "pros" who you say rarely install the system properly anyway? I've seen plenty of professional and do it yourself work botched and/or shoddy. That doesn't mean it's hard, it just means people don't follow directions or they are lazy. Lots of people do stupid things, but it doesn't mean everyone does. I slap myself in the forehead a few times a week when looking at someones crappy work. Sometimes they knew better, the rest of the time they should have known better if they spent 5 minutes thinking about what they were doing.

DIY is often funny. I'm a tech in a car dealer and I fix many many things DIY'ers were thinking they were doing "better", doing it themselves........... even independent repair shops that don't know the details of the cars they're dealing with at times............. making money on other's mistakes is nice.

I have EPA 609 cert(yes, I know it's not the same as 608), and access to any refrigerant I want.... but I still paid the "pros" to install my system in my home. I did bring home a gauge set to verify low system charge myself, but I don't have the time to learn and make sure that I really, truely knew the differences of the home a/c system to do a proper system replacement.
