    If the OD unit and strips can be run together add in those BTUs. You are getting something for those amps.

    The COP curve will help pin down the BTUs, but be careful there. The DOE tests we ran to gen those numbers are unlikely to represent your specific situation. Its a ballpark, but better than nothing. If you root around on the net for the manufacturer standardized testing or check the archives I think there were some discussions about those limitations.

    I'd been wondering if the outside coils would would ever frost from the condensate being pulled from the outside air. I suppose the defrost cycle occurs more or less frequently depending on outside temp and RH. Does the HP run in cooling cycle to generate the defrost BTUs or do the outside coils have electric heaters in them for this purpose? How does the HP know when to defrost itself?

    How much of a temp set back depends somewhat on the thermostat you use.

    The HP switches to cooling mode to defrost.

    The point was if you over size the strips you can force your self to do a panel upgrade when its really not needed.
