We have three 10 SEER Goodman condensers. They are only 6 years old. Our house is only 6 years old. One condenser went belly up and shorted yesterday and needs to be replaced. Our electricity bills are ridiculously high, especially in the summer. We are in Texas and pay around $800 during the hottest months. We have a pool and koi pond which explains some of that. But still!
In hopes of reducing our bills, we are thinking about changing out all three units with a Rheem/Ruud 13 or 14 SEER running R22. The tech said we needed to change the coils too if we did this.
Our house is about 4500 square feet, 2 stories. We have 1 unit for the 2nd floor, 1 unit for the main floor, and 1 unit for the master which is also downstairs. The master is pretty good sized at about 400 sq feet.
We were told we needed two 4 ton units (1 for each floor) and maybe a 1 ton unit for the master bedroom. Is this overkill or about right? We keep the thermostat about 78 on 100 degree days.
He said this would give us a 40% increase in efficiency. Do you agree?
Thanks in advance
