    Back to the variable speed blower question: Is it cheaper/better to run a variable speed blower all the time versus the low speed on a 3- or 4-speed blower? And if there is a savings, is it reasonable enough to bump up to the VS blower considering it also typically is associated with the HE furnace.

    Also keep in mind, if you haven't yet gotten the quotes, the added expense to go from a straight AC unit to a HP may be less than you think. In my case with Trane XL16i's, after figuring in the larger rebates, the difference per unit was less than I often spend on a night out!
