are you that is not the exaust for a down flow cook stove
I am looking for a new home and have been going through the model homes at a few neighborhoods. I am hoping someone can answer a question that the "builders rep." could not. Bear with me I am no HVAC pro and I probably have incorrect terminology:
Every house at one of the neighborhoods had a large metal vent coming through the exterior wall very close to the level of the ground. It looked just like a dryer vent, only a little larger. I put my hand under the vent and noticed the air was VERY cold, and coming out at a fairly good volume. I went into the same area in the basement and noticed there was a duct coming directly off of the main supply from the furnace going outside. Just as if there was a room there, a line just runs straight outside.
This supply duct runs outside in all of the homes at this neighborhood. This appeared to be a basic GFA with A/C system. No humidifier, no electronic filter, no zoning (according to builders rep and I only saw one TStat.).
Any ideas? Wouldnt pumping cold air out of the house not only be very wasteful, but also put a vacuum on the home? I am fairly interested in a few of the floorplans. I might be able to return sometime tomorrow with the camera and snap a few shots, unless you PROs know right away what I'm talking about.

No supply should be run outside. You are right , it will put a house in a vacuum.
It could possibly be fresh air inlet and just felt like it was blowing.
Sounds like a fresh air intake that was mistakenly connected to the supply trunk line instead of the return.
Use the biggest hammer you like, pounding a square peg into a round hole does not equal a proper fit.
