    What's Better Deal?

Location: Townhouse, CA approx 1800 sq ft

    Two choices presented:

    Furnace Goodman GMH80453AX 45K BTU 80% 2 stage
    A/C Goodman SSX140361 36K BTU 14 SEER 3 TON

    or

    Furnace Carrier 58CTX070-1-12 80% 2 stage
    A/C Carrier 24APA536A003 PURON 15 SEER 3 TON

Goodman appears to have better warranty from factory. However, Carrier company dealer will warranty carrier for 10 years parts and labor like Goodman.

    What's the better buy?

    Appreciate thoughts.

Either one should work fine, though on a personal level I think I'd go with the Carrier. What calls for the difference in sizing? 070 might be the smallest size for the 58CTX--I'm not sure (I'll check now), but a 2-stage furnace doesn't mean you can oversize. If going with the Carrier, I'd request the ATA tin-plated copper coil.

OK-- The 58CTX can go down to 45k btu's (I just checked). I would want to know why a 70k furnace was quoted versus the 45k furnace. I don't know which one is sized properly, if any. A load calculation needs to be done. Do you know what size you had beforehand?

not trying to come down on ya, but you need to edit your pricing out of your post, it is not allowed on this site. Once that is done, I am sure there are a lot of people here with experience on that equipment, that you can bounce questions off of.

Sorry. Thanks. Wasn't quoting total costs...just price difference between estimates. Have had carrier in my own house for 18 years...no problems...same debate...value for the money...Goodman or Carrier?

Will have to ask. Would BTU sizing be located on furnace with serial # and model # info?

Yes it will be on the inside of the furnace with all of the serial and model number information. In my opinion I would go with the Carrier, but good luck getting a true 15 SEER with that 2-speed furnace. Why no Variable speed option?

The Goodman furnace will probably work better then the Carrier.
And cost less to heat with.

When you take brand name out of the equation, (ban tunnel vision) you'll know why.

    Goodman A/C units are fine.
    They have good warranties.
Several members of this board are Goodman deaalers, and have no problems with them.

Installation counts more then a brand name.

There are a lot of more popular brand name units installed that die early deaths because of poor installations.
So pick a good contractor, and what ever brand he installs will be fine.

Bryant is the same as Carrier, usually just a few bucks less for the name.

I can tell you what the best A/C is.

The one that is currently cooling my house.

But if it breaks down. It will be the worst POS ever made.
