I'm sick of this
Because I'm on the main refrigeration crew I have the privilege to work on ice machines and all the stuff that coustomers use regulary, today was the final straw I'm telling you. Down town denver at the 16th street mall during the lunch hour (thank you dispatcher) trying to work on this ice machine thats loacated under the pop machince, and you just can't do nothing everyone standing behind you with cup in hand asking.
"can I get ice or pop?"
and of corse being the polite and professional tech. that I am I reply
"Well yes ma'am' you sure can"
Next thing you now there is 30 people in line waiting to get pop and ice. I've go 30 service calls to do in the next two days and I have to deal with this. Now I'm a 15 year veteran in this trade but it's starting to get me. Im to the point now that I am ready to tell the store manager to put a "out of order" sign on the dang thing till I get done. My being nice and polite is starting to wear thin. Thanks for listening guys I needed to get that off my chest.

For one, the customer rarely gives a darn about you. Remember, you are costing them money. Secondly, do not let your dispatcher give you that type of call at lunch. I go through the same things but have learned what not to do at certain times. I feel for you!

I know how you feel, you always gotta be the nice guy. The thing is even if there is a sign on it 70% of people won't see it or just ignore it completely, still ask, and you'll have to be nice and help them out....just my 2 cents.
The restaurant/food industry sucks to begin with, I hate being behind a counter or in a kitchen working on a case where you keep getting kicked or stepped on and you are always in someones way or someones in yours, It just sucks.

The only thing that sucks more is being the go to guy for all that POS jobs. "Well we known you will get it fixed". And the other guys,"I'm not comfortable working on that stuff. I don't have any experience". Until it's the titty bar. Then they fall all over theirselves trying to get the call.
Beware of advice given by some guy on the Internet.

We used to have a customer that owned a place called "Boy Bar" There catch phrase was "Entrance in the Rear" generally closed during the day so it was 'ok" to go there but I got an After Hours call once from them and talked them out of it . No way i was going there while the building was occupied Now that is a scary POS call.

Pre-printed "Out of Order" signs are a life saver. Make a whole bunch at home. No matter what I'm fixin' a sign let's everyone know I'm workin' on it and leave it alone.
Nemo me impune lacessit.
How much blood do I have to bathe in to get clean?

I had one for when I needed to take a dump. I'd pick a medical building. One in particular. One holer. Every time some old dude shook the door then waited until I was done. Shaking the door every once in a while.
Started putting the out of order sign on and crapped in peace.

Had to P.M. a big Hoshi ice machine. I filled all the ice buckets they had and put them in the walk-in freezer. The dummies working kept coming up and saying "Can I get ice?" Finally I got a 3x6 piece of plywood and wrote on it " Ice in Freeezer!!!" I set it on top of the machine and shined my rechargable light on it so it was lit up.
There's TREACHERY AFOOT!!!

Ice machines.......I seem to only get the ones that haven't been cleaned in 2 years and should have been replaced a decade ago. I tell them they need a new one and it's the old lie "One more month" or something similar. Same with prep tables and reach-ins. The the cooks are all over, and it's just a PITA. Also, they only seem to call on a Friday afternoon when you're on the way home or at 10AM so you get there at luch time.
Well, now I have cursed the day so I will probably be working on some old piece of crap ice maker at 3PM.
