Okay, here are some pics of the new equipment and a few of the old also. Please post your comments, questions and criticisms. Let me know if any specific or close up shops are needed and I'll try to post.

It's pretty but looking I see the condenser is sitting directly in front of the disconnect and that's a no-no. And I just don't like the A/C condensate and the furnace condensate tied into the same line where backflow can be possible. It's pretty though and I like the furnace and condenser pad install.

Is there a reason the disconnect shouldn't be directly behind the unit?

My concern about the drain line was that it empties right at the foundation of the house and also right at the pad.

Thanks for the complement on the pad. I actually did most of that the day before they came. The old unit had sunk down some, so I needed to get it raised up some. I laid 3 sides and left them room to remove the old unit. Then finished it up while they were doing some inside work.

I also noticed they used electrical tape to wrap the pipes outside. I assume there was a better way to do that. That tape won't last long outside.

The gas line needs better support.

The Yowza was for the old stuff.

Is the pipe in this photo for the furnace exhaust?

Sometimes installers use electrical tape outside when zip ties would be better. You could always get some black zip ties at a hardware store down the road if the electrical tape goes bad.

All things considered, I think it looks pretty good for the most part... There's a difference between looks and performance, as well as code.

never ever use copper for the drain on a 90% furnace, the condensate will eat it up...


there was plenty of room to get that other filter case in there if they had used beenthere's design for the return box.....

Yeah disconnect behind unit, not code.
need to be able to access it without coming into possible contact with unit.

Is that a dryer vent poking through the window to the left of the condensing unit? If so, not a good combination to have a dryer vent and an air breathing condensing unit nearby. Especially since that Trane has spine fin coils, which attract dirt like a magnet. Great heat transfer when they're clean, but not so hot when it's dirty.

At a minimum those coils should be cleaned yearly. WIth a dryer vent nearby, make that more often.

What size furnace and A/C?

Is there a return drop on both sides of the furnace?

I saw them messing with a filter, but they never actually showed me exactly where it went. I'm going to assume it's behind the furnace door with the knobs on it. I guess I need to check on that, huh. lol

some times great customer service means blowing off the code. i wouldn't want to be the one to tell the h.o. he wasted half a day making up a pretty pad cause he put it in the wrong place. i'd fire any hand that did tell him. nice install, excellent equipment.

I don't know. I had asked them before the install if there was going to be an air intake from the outside and they said it was not needed in a garage.

The city has not inspected it yet. I assume if it's not up to code they will let the installing company know.

Yep, that's the furnace exhaust. They just ran it through the old hole in the wall that the previous 80% furnace was vented.

Zip ties do not last nearly as long as good electrical tape.
