I found a MAJOR place of intruding attic air into the living space.

Flue pipe into the ceiling. Not sealed around, hot air just poured in.
Now its time to begin sealing those registers.

Should use FIRE RATED caulk. I believe it's red but may com in other colors. may need a flange around it to make it tiger around the pipe if the gap is to large to caulk.

Unless this flue is rated to have insulation touching it, you have a fire danger. Check your code, but you typically need a 6 inch offset around a hot flue. A metal collar/flange provides an offset while sealing air leaks in the ceiling. You can use the foam stuff around the outer edges of the flange.

FOAM IS NOT FIRE RATED!

Also, build a dam around all hot flues, recessed lights, and other hot spots so insulation will not touch them. Stack batting, or staple cardboard around the hot spot so loose fill does not fall against it.

Time for a trip to Lowes then to the attic. Should be fun w/temps in the mid 90's. Did get most of the foam insulation from the inside.

I wonder if there's a flange that can be installed to an existing flue. Obviously it'd have to wrap around the flue b/c the flue ain't goin' no where.

Every opening in a structure here has to be sealed off......to meet code. And fire dapers should be used where applicable.
