Since you already have the window unit you might try having a window opening cut through the blockwork a little oversize and frame it in to the unit. This would solve the side vent obstruction problem and allow full airflow. You will need to cut the block's one too high and install a header to keep the wall from busting. (actually 2 and header isn't the proper name, but a mason will know what you need)

We put food on our tables by installing the very units you are asking us to tell you how to install. We might as well cut our own throats. How would you feel if we asked you how to make the very parts you sell to your best customer?
