My brother's church is considering replacing the 25 year old air handler, Ruud model uhqa 1220 t. The heat pump is an Arcoaire, model yj036gb1 only 9 years old. It's a mismatched system that requires the service tech to add r22 for the cooling season and take it back out for heating season.

I know the local Arcoaire distributor in this area so I called him up to ask him if he could get an air handler to match the existing heat pump. He quoted me a price on a fsm3600. He told me that this was a 13 seer unit, but that would not be a problem mating it with the 10 seer heat pump.

I have my doubts.

Any input for you all would be appreciated. I don't want to see the church install another incompatible system.

your local Arcoaire guy is correct it's not a problem (for him) cause he is just selling the equipment!

do everyone a favor and put an ARI matched system in to get the efficiency and proper operation from your brother's church!

what did your service tech. recommend?

10 SEER equipment is obsolete. You won't find a matching air handler. Since the new Arco AH has a TXV, if the existing heat pump has a scroll compressor, that will be the closest you'll come to a decent system short of replacing all.
