    Loudness of 74 dB

    Does anyone know how loud 74 dB is. Compared to ? I'm assuming it is that loud in the 1 stage of a HP. It is a Bryant 286 and I was wondering if it would be annoying to listen to since it will be located outside a window. Anyone know how loud it would be in 2nd stage?

    That should be the sound rating in second stage.

    74db is twice as loud as 71, and 74db is only half as loud as 77.

    Its not very loud. But sound is a perceived annoyance.

    If you look on some manufacturer's websites you can see the decibel ratings on them, I can't remember what the quietest is but they have some quieter than that unit. That's not very loud, but there are quieter units if want one that will be humming instead of talking to you...

    OSHA says prolonged exposer to anything 85 db or over, you need hearing protection.

    On the Bryant website for that model of hp it says "as low as 74 dB". It doesn't say which stage that is for. So I was wondering if it will be much louder. I'm not sure what 74 dB level would be.

    75 db is about equivalent to a washing machine. 70 is like a quiet back ground conversation and 80 is about = to a vacuum cleaner close to you in the upper range or the loudest vacuum cleaners.

    70 dB is average conversational speech at 3.25 feet. An average office is about 55 dB, and a residence 40 dB.
