The 16 SEER American Standard is a huge bump up in $$ over the 18 SEER Amana and gargantuan bump up over the 16 SEER Amana
No mention of T-stat for Amana

Ask them for the Honeywell IAQ thermostat.
One of the things I should have done when I had mine installed.
Read some good things about it.
The A/S16 will require you to switch to gas heat sooner the the Amana's or the A/S18
The TCON802 nor 803, can't control 2 stages of gas heat when used as a dual fuel thermostat.
I'm really hoping to do away w/fossil fuel heat and simply rely on the heat pump and our back gas logs. I'm guessing if that is a main concern, I'll need to go w/the Amana 18 SEER

The Trane, A/S 16 SEER 2 stage HPs have lower BTU capacitiy at lower temps then virtually any other 2 stage.
