My a/c unit keeps flipping the breaker. Just bought the home and don't know the history on home or unit. Any one have any suggestions or ideas as to what to look at?

Your breaker is tripping most likely due to some type of electrical malfunction. The only way to know the cause is to have someone come out and trace your system. Could be any of a number of reasons for the tripped circuit. There is really no way to guess on this one. I recently had a breaker tripping at a customers apartment which took me 3 days to find. It all depends on what it is. Could be simple or it could be difficult to find, but a good contractor will be able to find it.

I would not assume it is the compressor without an analysis. It was not the compressor tripping my last job. It was a problem in the panel box. I have learned to never make assumptions. experience will save you time in tracking it down, but you still have to verify your theory with a good trace.

I think its a psychological reassurance of what he knows is inevitable. Like when you go to the doctor for "tests" and you wait for them to give you the results.

Smart. Get a tech to check it out. It can be anything from a compressor to a shorted wire. All you'll get here are guesses. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

They have given me all kinds of reasons as to why they can't fix it. The outside unit is a 3 ton unit and the inside is a 4 ton. The ac tech said they are not compatible.

Post the mod numbers of both units.
Some one may be able to verify either way if that is a match.
Some brands did use larger indoor units then outdoor units.

that tech that said that could could very well be full #### a 4 ton drive furnace on low speed blower could be just right and the oversized coil should not be a problem . there is a possibility that it could be a properly matched system

Depends a little on brand.
OD unit, look near where the copper lines attach to it. Probably just above them.
ID unit, look around where the lines attach also.
If you also have a furnace, it should be inside the access panel.
