    Repair Quotes, Model # confusion

    This is related to my other thread about the tree smashing my heat pump. I'm getting quotes from HVAC folks that differ significantly in price with part #'s that are not clear to me. I've looked on the Carrier Web site and they have soothing names like Comfort and Performance series.

    The quotes I'm getting are using pure model #'s that are meaningless to me. Can anyone tell me the the difference between Carrier Heat Pump Model #25HCB324 and Model #25HBB324A003? Are both FY4BNF002 and FX4CNF030T00 model #'s for Air Handlers? What is the difference?

    The FX4 has a higher-efficiency blower motor. Yes, both of those are air handler models. The 25HBB324 is the builder model with R410A refrigerant. The 25HCB324 is the R410A Comfort Series unit. None of those air handlers are variable speed, if that matters to you.

    hcb is r-410

    What's the difference between the 25HCB and 25HCA (which I am actually familiar with)? Not familiar with the 25HCB--only really seen/heard of the 25HCA. Looks like the same thing from a quick glance at ratings and data...

    Variable Speed Air Handler

    Thanks very much for everyone's input! This helps a lot. What benefit does a Variable Speed Air Handler provide?

    If the ductwork is sufficient:

    -provides more efficiency by using less energy than a standard PSC blower
    -provides better dehumidification when setup to dehumidify by slowing down the blower
    -can run the blower on a low speed 24/7 to even out temperatures and provide constant filtration
    -has the ability to vary its speed to maintain proper airflow
    -can be quieter if the ductwork is sufficient
