any expert advice here? Have no one ever work on servers closet here?
small closet that turned into server room, currently have fans that connected to plug in thermostat. I will put new supply in but the problem is what happen if I turn on the heat? What solution is available out there? Apparently zoning is out of question for now due to how small the room is.
How do I control a damper such this :

to closed when it detects hot air? My current plan is to wired it to a thermostat inside the closet. The plan is to buy a simple digital thermostat (can anyone recommend what thermostat is suitable here?), a normally open damper and hopefully it works as I vision it.
logic is when its hot inside, damper will be open...I still need to turn on the main AC unit. When its cold inside, closed the damper...as I might turn on the heater. Are this a feasible plan?
Also, the smallest electronic damper I can find in a reasonable price is 6 inches. Can anyone recommend where I can find 4 inches one?
In the future I might add wall to wall 10 CFM Panasonic fan to pull out some hot air, if I acquire more servers and generate more heat there.
any expert advice here? Have no one ever work on servers closet here?
We cant offer DIY --I have wired dampers in to prevent heated air going in the room
I'm having my whole HVAC system replaced by licensed contractor, they can put supply there but his price doesnt include any solution for preventing hot air being distributed there. I have to manually close the vents, however they willing to install a damper and a thermostat during the install.
How do you do it? What thermostat did you use?
it could work providing everything is designed and sized properly. could a ductless unit work? are they planning on putting in a return?
They will do Man J, S and D on my house since everything is being replaced. Ductless will be too expensive and I would just wanted a solution that I can take advantage of because of the new HVAC system being installed. Return is just outside the closet (both return line and closet is in the hallway)
Thanks. The thing is they leave it up to me, meaning they will just install it. I have to come up with the equipments, buying it and tell them my plan or else we have to rewrite the contract and have this add up to the cost. I dont have much time, as summer is coming and just wanted to get this installed ASAP.
How big is the closet?
I'd avoid the hassle of trying to force it to work and put a mini window unit or portable unit in.
You rig up a damper, and that room will heat up fast with no air flow.
Worst come worst its more economical for me to just manually closed the register during the heating season and install wall to wall 10 CFM fan to pull out the heat out. The portable unit for server room is 900 bucks...they are a bit diff then the regular portable unit, due to humidity concern.
My plan is to buy :
1) Damper

2) Sensor
http://www.amazon.com/Aprilaire-8052...bxgy_hi_text_y
3) Thermostat
http://www.amazon.com/Aprilaire-8463...bxgy_hi_text_y
Total cost is about $120 and install a wall to wall fan in the future when I have more servers...which probably cost $150.
Question is, will these combo work?
My NEST thermostat will be replaced by Infinity thermostat, maybe NEST will work better inside the closet then the aprilaire?
There such things as 1 Zone damper
http://www.smarthome.com/jackson-sys...-6-damper.html
but it cost a lot and not even sure if this will connect to infinity. Might as well get the infinity zoning at this price...lol.
They mention to me they never have such situation and recommend me to just pull out the heat out like how the bathroom fan taking moisture out and put passive vents on the door/wall top and bottom so when i turn on AC it will suck the cool air in.
I did not like the idea, I would rather have supply there. So that's what they gonna do, but as far as controlling that supply to prevent hot air in...its something I have to look on myself. They can assist to install the parts as the purpose of this wont affect the overall HVAC design, just to automate the damper operation specific to this supply. My goal is to make it effortless as I do not want to remember to close the vents manually every time the season change and HVAC system demand for hot air.
