A micron gauge is a must. My boss thought for years they were just a techs tool . They way I figured if its used during intallation there's less chance your techs are gonna need to use thiers. Also its a great way to know if your vac. oil needs changed.

I use mine.
But I don't use it to pull a vacuum.
I use a vacuum pump for that.

Do I use mine, sure do. Now I will admit that I haven't always used one. There was a time when I didn't have one. And I still don't always use it. But I do have it and I use it I would say about 95% of the time.

I think that's probably true. The pros that come to HVAC-TALK probably don't reflect a cross-section of the average HVAC tech. More likely, they come here to keep learning and find out how to do a better job than others who just want to do it the way they've always done it.

I've got a CPS also that is about the size of a gauge ....... some guys say they are a POS but i don't know.... I use it in tight spots. I can't recommend it yet.

RSA 560 analyzer has a built in micron scale, but one of the guys said measuring at the manifold is not accurate.
An instrument that measures that small an increment has to be very accurate to be worthwhile to use and I don't think they can be had inexpensively.
I would drop the money on the 560 if I had some reliable data instead of anecdotal
testimonials.
Anybody got any comments either way on that?

OK. I got a YJ Brute evac/charging manifod. It has 1/4 plugs on the hi and lo sides. These are obviously for a micron instrument.
Why than is it not good to measure vacuum at the manifold?
I hear so many diff reasons I would like to seperate the the chaff from the wheat.
