Two stage is always an improvement in comfort ,when instale correctly.
We prefer the Carrier Infinity, but what you choose should serve you well.

thanks
thanks for your input dash.
more details the big expert on comfort with original post like i said
would not give specifics on model and did not mention the r-22 phase out
and would not give specifics on models to be installed ,just said it would
work at 14 15 seer with their enginered duct system and added insulation
package . i found out on my own about the refrigerant change ,called sales
rep and he said o the r401 systems are causing problems and not dependable,
tappan and trane dealer said the r401 works great . what gives.needless to
say i cancelled with the so called experts and getting the complete tech 3
system for less than original quote and getting the extra insulation blown
in from a local lumber co. for way less than the original expert.i think they are
experts in taking peoples money. by the way installer says he figured i would
want to keep the old unit,if it realy is the compressor would it be feasible to
repair and keep on hand for our old house that we could not sell due to market and are having to rent. it is actually a 3 ton on a 1777 sq ft home
ours id 4 ton on 1959 sq ft.

Your rentals air handler is a 3 ton, and won't be able to move enough air for a 4 ton condenser.
Most people/companies bashing R410A are just resistant to change, and will be left ouot in the cold after 2010.

3 ton air handler
i realize inside unit would have to upgraded,i am afraid 4 ton unit would be to
much for size of house ,would run enough to dehumidify.with that in mind
what should i do with old unit . my main question is feelings on the tappan system on main home is it as good of a unit as it looks on paper.the specs are nice and 10 year warranty (limited of course ) on parts and labor assistance on a fully matched system is a good choice.you guys should know
the price range of systems.and i can get this full tappan system, new ductwork for somewhat less than the single stage trane.home had the matched trane system when i moved in ,i have had fits with it and apparently
the previous owners did also the whole time they owned home (original owners) the crappy mylar ductwork didnt help im sure.some splitting was
noted on purchase inspection but over three years ducts have deteriorated
drastically

Tappan is ok.
You can use your old unit as a conversation piece.
Or donate it to the local votech.
