    Deciphering Magic chef codes

    Hi All:

My 2 units have died of old age and I'm trying to replace them. They were installed in 85 and the lettering is so old that it is hard to read.

Here is what i was able to make out on the outside units, CJK 3019 and CJK 24. Could anyone tell me the tonnage of these units?

The inside units are Trane BWF 736 a100a1 and the other Trane is bwf 730.
    Thanks for your help

Just guessing on this ,the 30 might be a 2 1/2 ton and the 24 a 2 ton. Again ,this is only a guess. The coils, 736 a three ton and the 730 a 2 1/2.

Doesn't matter what size they are.
Have a load calc done to find out teh correct size you need.

Your contractors should do one to know hwat size your home needs instead of guessing and using rules of thumb.
Shhould be included in the cost of the system change out.
A load done by an outside party will have a cost directly related to how difficult it is to do it for your house.

Screen contractors over the phone. If they don't do load calcs, do have them out.

Varies by the house a little but not much.
Usually takes me 45 minutes to an hour to measure and draw out the house.

But an outside party is charging for a service that they are only performing once for that home.
They would also be liable for the equipment sizing if it was wrong. And have to pay for replacement with the right size if they are wrong. So a third party may take more time double checking their measurements and insulation estimates.
Along with possibly doing a blower door test.

I don't do blower door test, do you.
And how quick do you do your load calcs.

That's alot of time to spend in a home. Do you charge for the calc?

I do everything slow. Bad medical history.

I searched for quite a bit myself for a company that would do a manual J... Finally found a couple and have decided on whom I will use. They have not done any work as of yet but I have high hopes.

I am also in NW NJ and would be happy to pass along their name but I am not sure if it is allowed?

You must measure, and draw a lot faster then I do then.

Nope, not charged for. Then again, I don't give the calc either if no contract is signed.

That's what I was refering to. I would not give up the calc unless I got the job first. I it would be like cutting your own throat.
