NNJ system?

So I am in the final stages of selecting my "system" and wanted to ask everyone what they would do in terms of efficiency...

My home is in northern NJ and wanted to know what SEER and heat efficiency would be recommended?

Not sure if it matters but the home is about 40 years old, poorly insulated in most of the house for now (planning on redoing each room as time goes on), about 2000sq, about 23 windows\sliders, E/W facing, no trees.

I have decided on Trane as the system that will be installed.

How long do you plan on staying in the house? Besides that, tighten the house up sooner than later since no matter what SEER or % efficiency you purchase, it will leak out anyway. Personally, if I where replacing my system today, I'd go 23 SEER 95+%. When the zoning control comes out my wallet is in trouble.

So what size equipment did your Trane contractor propose.

They proposed XR13 and a XR80.

Seems to be low end, which I don't blame them as I am sure they knew we were getting multiple bids and didn't want to be way on the high side by a wide margin...

Now that I know who I am going with, just want advise on what others think is worth the extra $$$, if any, to invest in now.

I am sure due to the current market, and the other half being way upside down in the house under current market conditions, she\we will be in the house a long time...

with our utility rates the higher you go in efficiency the better you will be over the life of the equipment.

look into duel-fuel set up for our climate.

Thats efficiency, what size, BTU/Tons.

3 ton and 64k BTU.

In Trane, the 15xl, or 19i heat pump, with a 90% VS blower furnace.

Judging from the way the weather is out west.
Electric is going to jump real soon, and so is nat gas.
