should i figure my unfinished basement for ac size
currently my basement is unfinished. i plan on finishing it in a year or 2. i know i shouldnt go too big on the a/c size, but could i get away with a bigger unit so i have enough in the future? or should i go with the right size now, and upgrade when the basement is finished.BTW i have vents in the basement already

Depends on how much of your basement is above ground, if any.
And also how you intend to use it when its finnished. Basements generally take very little to cool them.
What use do you have planned for the basement.

Just plan on putting a seperate unit in for the basement...my brother did that just to control the humidity.....he has a pretty big basement and did not want to compromise the first floor comfort of his home...

75% is underground. I will be using it for an extra bedroom and office

You should do it as a seperate calc, for a seperate system, or for zoning your system.
Its heating and cooling needs won't match that of other ares of the house.

You need the laod calcs for each floor then decide serparte units or zoning.
I like zoning better.One system,compressor,etc., to maintain and replace one day.

Most important issue is your climate. Most basements have negative cooling load until mid summer.
Where are you located? I am attaching a data logger data from a Madison, Wi basement with 90 pint dehu and no ac operation. In addition, the VS furnace blower is operating "on" keeping the home below 75^F. Regards TB
Bear Rules: Keep our home <50% RH summer, controls mites/mold and very comfortable.
Provide 60-100 cfm of fresh air when occupied to purge indoor pollutants and keep window dry during cold weather. T-stat setup/setback +8 hrs. saves energy
Use +Merv 10 air filter. -Don't forget the "Golden Rule"
