PSC motor just reversed
Okay, I am sure at somepoint I knew the answer to this once but my mind ain't what it used to be. Here goes. Why does a PSC motor sometimes just reverse. Capacitor is still good but the motor just reverses. What is the technical reason this happens?

I've seen them reverse only on a weak or bad cap or "windmilling" in the case of a condensor fan.
If the cap is weak it will start in whatever direction "external" forces pull it.Last edited by sparks; 06-14-2008 at 09:34 PM.
Sometimes when I consider what tremendous consequences come from little things, I am tempted to think there are no little things!

That is usually how it goes. Two jobs I have seen the cap was checked (OK) then swapped out because I never trust my MF meter. Still the motor was reversed. Wiring was correct and volts normal.
